“ My work is inspired by the beautiful contradictions that exist in nature -
fragility and strength, and how they
inform my life’s experiences”

Riti Malik, a Sydney-based ceramic artist, previously worked as a Graphics and Communications  Designer in India from 2002 to 2015. Upon relocating to Australia in 2015, Riti sought a fresh artistic endeavor, one that would signify joy and meaning, leading her to enrol in the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts (Ceramics).

Driven by a passion for hands-on creative expression and a commitment to continual exploration, Riti embraces the tactile nature of clay to craft her art. Her work reflects the intricate balance of natural connections and surprising contradictions, exploring the intersection at which nature, and by extension, life operates.

Riti is particularly drawn to porcelain, captivated by its dichotomy as a delicate yet challenging material, which when fired to high temperatures transforms into a pristine, translucent and refined ceramic object, almost as its fragility lent it the strength. She creates lightweight intricate pieces with a distinct sense of grace. In her more recent work, she reinvents traditional techniques of making by applying a fresh approach, hence forming new languages within the material.

Riti's art has been showcased in numerous group exhibitions and can be found in both private and corporate collections. She was awarded Winner of the Little Things Art Prize 2021 (Ceramics Category) as well as the Peoples Choice Award for Shelly Simpson Ceramics Prize, 2021.
